Alex Klingen
Shop Captain of the Woodshop, Volunteer extraordinare. Alex says, "As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed making things. In my younger days I built many different items, like lots of kids do, out of erector sets and the like. I still have good memories of using scrap pieces of wood to make boats that I could sail on the creek behind our house. Through the years I continued to make whatever came to mind; coffee tables, chairs, walking sticks, cutting boards, knife handles, to name a few. I also built a 12 foot sail boat which I sailed for many years until a hurricane ended its life (long story). And, of course an endless number of home improvement projects. I also have a great deal of experience with photography, especially underwater photography but that is challenging now that I’m in central Virginia but since there are so many picturesque settings in VA it’s a fair trade off."
