There are 2 lock bolts to the adjustment bolts to keep the current setting.  Please DO NOT change these settings.  There are guides lines on the front showing where the belt should run so it's obvious if it starts to track to the right and curl under which will grind the right roller and bed.  If this happens please STOP since the belt is just a large sheet of sandpaper and it will grind out the entire roller support and permanently damage the machine..

GENERAL

Wide Belt Sander

Vector Space has a Powermatic WB-37, 37 inch wide belt sander.

The wide belt sander is used to give a smooth and consistent finish, and can be used with parts too delicate for the planer. This is a finishing tool and is not meant as a replacement or alternative to the planer.

SAFETY

  • Always wear approved safety glasses or face shield while operating the equipment.
  • Before operating equipment, remove tie, rings, watches and other jewelry, and roll sleeves up past the elbows. Remove all loose clothing and confine long hair.
  • Closed toe shoes are required when working in a shop area.
  • Do not wear gloves while operating the equipment.
  • Never place hands or fingers under the drum or dust cover.
  • Keep hands and clothing away from operating drums.
  • Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other conditions that may affect its operation.

REFERENCE

PROCEDURE

  1. Visually check that the sanding belt is in the correct position and tensioned.
  2. Ensure that the dust gate on top of the machine is open.
  3. Release the E-Stop. You should hear airflow after this.
  4. Set the machine to the correct height by lowering the table, inserting your board between the table and the thickness sensor, and raising the table until the sensor is depressed.
  5. Turn on the sanding belt and the conveyor belt.
  6. Feed the board into the machine without making any height adjustment on the first pass. Subsequent passes should not exceed 0.010" per pass.
  7. When finished, turn off the sanding belt, turn off the conveyor belt, and once they've come to a stop, press the E-Stop.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Belts are not turning on and the keypad is not responsive. A limit switch has likely been tripped. There are 4 limit switches: belt tension, 2 belt position, and table height.
