GENERAL
Vector Space has a Powermatic WB-37, 37 inch wide belt sander.
The wide belt sander is used to give a smooth and consistent finish, and can be used with parts too delicate for the planer. This is a finishing tool and is not meant as a replacement or alternative to the planer.
SAFETY
- Always wear approved safety glasses or face shield while operating the equipment.
- Before operating equipment, remove tie, rings, watches and other jewelry, and roll sleeves up past the elbows. Remove all loose clothing and confine long hair.
- Closed toe shoes are required when working in a shop area.
- Do not wear gloves while operating the equipment.
- Never place hands or fingers under the drum or dust cover.
- Keep hands and clothing away from operating drums.
- Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other conditions that may affect its operation.

PROCEDURE
- Visually check that the sanding belt is in the correct position and tensioned.
- Ensure that the dust gate on top of the machine is open.
- Release the E-Stop. You should hear airflow after this.
- Set the machine to the correct height by lowering the table, inserting your board between the table and the thickness sensor, and raising the table until the sensor is depressed.
- Turn on the sanding belt and the conveyor belt.
- Feed the board into the machine without making any height adjustment on the first pass. Subsequent passes should not exceed 0.010" per pass.
- When finished, turn off the sanding belt, turn off the conveyor belt, and once they've come to a stop, press the E-Stop.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Belts are not turning on and the keypad is not responsive. A limit switch has likely been tripped. There are 4 limit switches: belt tension, 2 belt position, and table height.
