Vector Space Membership Agreement

Please read and give your consent to comply with the following Terms, Conditions and Policies by providing your signature at the bottom and clicking Submit. These policies are available online at vector-space.org/member-agreement for review at any time.

Shop Policies

  1. The following policies are in place to ensure fair access for all members to our facilities. Failure to abide by these policies may result in termination of your membership or in the user being held responsible for replacement cost and labor cost of damaged Vector Space property.
  2. All users of the wood and metal shops need to complete tool safety training before using the tools in these areas. Members are responsible for scheduling safety training by emailing info@vector-space.org.
  3. If at any time you notice machinery, equipment, and/or tools are not functioning properly, stop using the malfunctioning equipment immediately. If you are knowledgeable in fixing the equipment you may proceed; if not please use the appropriate Slack channel to post about the issue and find a member that can help. When using any of the Vector Space machines or facilities, members must return machines and facility to the state they were found in, or better (clean, fully assembled, in good working order).
  4. The tools at Vector Space are not guaranteed to be in working order. Please do not rely on them for time sensitive or important tasks.

General Expectations

  1. Above all, remember that this is a community space and every member deserves to be treated with respect. We are all responsible for the wellbeing of the space and each other. Please pay member dues on time. Each member should contribute to the space, which includes but is not limited to cleaning the space, participating in space improvement projects (new workbenches, tool stands, storage, etc.), and managing group projects. We are a primarily volunteer-run organization, and members are encouraged to do their part to help keep things running smoothly.
  2. Membership is not a guarantee. Vector Space expects that every member, user of the shop, and workshop attendee will show one another goodwill and respect. Engaging in rude, embarrassing, or abusive behavior can result in termination of your membership. Please treat each other with respect.
  3. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited on Vector Space property.
  4. Pets are not allowed inside the makerspace.

Using the Makerspace when Classes are in Session

  1. Tables marked as reserved for classes are for the exclusive use of instructors and attendees beginning 20 minutes prior to the start of the class.
  2. Please be considerate and refrain from excessively noisy work (planning, jointing, grinding) during the first 30 minutes of the class.
  3. Classes will receive priority on the machines in the wood and metal shop.
  4. If you are on a deadline with a project, please speak with the instructor. We want you to finish your project and have the class be a success.

Electronics, Computing, & Networking Policy

  1. When using electronic, computing, or network devices owned by Vector Space, or connected to it’s network, do not engage in any illegal or inappropriate behavior.
  2. When using electronic components at Vector Space, please estimate the value of the components used in your circuit, and pay that amount to Vector Space before taking it home. If you do not take it home, there is no need to pay.

Personal Tools, Equipment, & Materials Policy

  1. All materials and projects belonging to members should be in a storage bin and properly labeled. All non or partially labeled projects/materials may be removed from the premises or will be open to use by other members. Vector Space is not responsible for any damage to projects or material stored in shop. Personal use tools, equipment, and materials are allowed in the facility provided they are in safe, working order. If you do not want others to use your personal tools or equipment, they should be stored in your labeled bin. Vector Space is not responsible for lost or stolen tools, equipment, or materials.
  2. Materials too large to fit in your bin can be stored at Vector Space for up to one week so long as they don’t disrupt other members’ use of the space.
  3. Materials such as scrap wood, fabric and nails/screws are available for member use. If an item or material is marked reserved, it is to be used for a specific class or project and is not available for other use.
  4. While materials are available for member use, members may not claim or reserve materials prior to their use.
  5. Consumable materials are not guaranteed to be available. Most consumables free for member use are either donated or left over from other projects. Please feel free to use these materials and to contribute your leftover materials for general use.
  6. If you are a heavy user of any material, please either replenish the item occasionally or make a donation for us to purchase more. This helps us to keep member fees down while still keeping the space well stocked.

Guest Policy

  1. We encourage you to tell family and friends about Vector Space and invite them to join. Guests may visit up to two times for free, and must sign a liability waiver (located on the desk by the front door). Guests MAY NOT use shop tools and machinery. You are welcome to show them around but they should not operate any equipment.
  2. Children that are too young to participate in maker activities may occasionally accompany you to Vector Space. Please see Members with Minor policy for details.
