Vector Space is in its fourth year of serving Lynchburg and surrounding counties as the only community makerspace. In this time, we have grown a diverse membership that works to improve their own lives and the lives of others. This year, teens have expanded their skills by bringing together Fashion + Technology on the runway, building skateboards from scratch, and qualified for finals in a national rocketry competition. Each month we introduce members of the Lynchburg community to new skills while opening the door to new opportunities in our classes and workshops. |
Why Give?
Funds raised during our 2019 Week of Making campaign will support our educational programs for youth, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners, including a much-needed scholarship fund for students unable to afford class registration fees or membership dues. The SBA recently created the MaTCH program for makerspaces, citing that, "existing makerspaces are uniquely positioned to help increase workforce development in U.S. cities." Vector Space is among leading makerspaces in the nation in addressing workforce development, encouraging entrepreneurs, and offering the highest quality STEM programming for youth.
What is Week of Making?
Supported by Nation of Makers, Week of Making celebrates the innovation, ingenuity and creativity of Makers.
Makers are developing new solutions and products for pressing challenges, engaging students in hands on, interactive learning of STEM, arts, and design, and enabling individuals to learn new skills in fabrication and manufacturing. [Week of Making] was created by Nation of Makers to support, encourage, promote, and highlight organizations from around the country who are working to create more opportunities for more people of all ages to make.
