Description This introductory class on the CNC router focuses on the workflow for routing a 2D design programmed in SheetCAM. Students will cut or engrave a candle holder in their choice of various hardwoods. Once the cutting is complete, you will have a new candle holder to use at home!
In the process we’ll cover,
- Use SheetCAM to generate a toolpath
- Importing vectorized drawings
- Contours and layers
- Nesting and Tabs
- Tool creation and discussion of tool choice
- Feed and Speed (use FSWizard app)
- Cut simulation
- Exporting gcode
- Reviewing gcode as a text file
- LinuxCNC
- Importing gcode
- Homing the machine
- Workpiece Clamping
- Vacuum table
- Screws
- Clamps
- Chip extraction
- Starting/Pausing/E-stopping operation
Note, the part created in this class must be less than one square foot.

For COVID-19 safety requirements, we ask that all participants of classes, as well as members working in the space, wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times indoors at Vector Space. We also ask that you maintain a safe distance of 6ft from each other when possible during the workshop. The instructor may need to come with 6ft of students at times.
