The instructor will guide participants to use the forge, tongs, hammer, and anvil to forge a Broach (or Cloak Pin) to wear or give to a loved one.

Description

Following an instructor's explanation and demonstration, participants will use tongs, 1/4" square steel rod, hammers, and an anvil to forge a penannular broach (or Cloak Pin).

Some of the Blacksmith skills taught during the forging process include,

  • drawing out a taper
  • making an end curl
  • forming a loop
  • creating a hinge
  • uses for various parts of the anvil
  • different hammering techniques

The participant's end product will be a broach made from steel bar stock that the participant can wear or give to a loved one.

COVID-19 and Class Safety Policies

For COVID-19 safety requirements during all classes, we ask that participants, instructors, and members working in the space, adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Please wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while working in Vector Space.
  • Please maintain a safe distance of 6 feet from each other when possible. For safety and teaching purposes, it may be necessary for the instructor to be within 6ft of students at times.

*Participants, please wear short sleeves for class safety, no jewelry, and long hair must be secured behind the head using a ponytail holder. Protective eyewear is required as well. We will provide the protective eyewear, but you may bring your own if you prefer.
