Class Name Virtual Pattern Sewing Workshop! No Need to leave home to learn! Instructor Jennifer Wooter Class Level Advanced Beginner to Intermediate sewer Contact jenniferkwoofter@gmail.com Length 3 hours Class Size 10Description
Come join us from the comfort of your own home and learn how to sew using patterns via Zoom! Using a sewing pattern can be confusing and overwhelming if you aren't comfortable with all of the nomenclature. In this class, we'll break down all the components of a sewing pattern, so that you can tackle your next
project with confidence!
While this class is primarily aimed at garment sewing, any beginning "sewists" will benefit from this skill-building. The instructor will provide a variety of "cheat sheets," fitting guides, and practical examples, with plenty of time for discussion and questions!
Students will be asked to download and print out a choice of four patterns. These patterns will be sent via email after registration. Students are also encouraged to bring a sewing pattern from their "stash" to the class, so that they can mark it up with helpful tips that will make sewing easier. However, students may also just follow along with the instructor's examples if they prefer!
You'll learn:
-- Quick ways to tell if a pattern is a dud
-- Choosing the best pattern format (printed vs. PDF, cut or trace, print-at-home vs. copy-shop, etc.)
-- How to choose your size and identify fitting adjustments you might need to make
-- Using pattern layouts (and tricks to optimize fabric use)
-- Understanding basic sewing terminology
-- Reviewing some basic "rules of the road" for successful pattern sewing results
-- Where to find free and low-cost resources to improve your sewing skills
