Work as a group to build a pop-up business. Students will create and execute a business plan, as well as producing and selling a line of product: custom speakers. This camp will take place at Vector Space.

Details

The project will start with business fundamentals including branding, budget, marketing, feasibility, and structure. Students will also be the production team, designing and building home decor speakers using exciters- a technology that turns almost any object into a speaker. Tools utilized will include scroll saw, vinyl cutter, laser cutter, spray booth, and more. The project will culminate with a booth at Get Downtown in September where students will sell their products, including a demonstration of the skills and techniques they learned in camp.

Each student will build three speakers two mid-range, and one subwoofer. Each will be a unique design, made by the student and brought to life using the various tools we cover. This will give the students exposure to a variety of tools and experience in selling a variety products.

Schedule

Camp will meet Monday-Friday, Aug 12-16, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The final project of the camp will be a booth at the Get Downtown festival on September 6th. Students need to attend all class meetings and the Get Downtown event.

Lunch break from 11:30 am - 12 pm. Snacks (granola bars) provided but students are expected to bring their own lunch.

Tuesday: Product Design
Wednesday: Product Development
Thursday: Product Development cont.
Friday: GetDowntown Booth Creation

Requirements

There is no prior knowledge or experience in business or product development necessary. Any rising 6-8th grader that is excited about this idea and can commit to attending each class is the ideal candidate. Camp is limited to ten students.
